Morphology and Histology Facility

Presentation

The Cochin Institute's Morphology and Histology facility is a laboratory specialized in histological studies and techniques.

- First, our laboratory provides technical services and advices to researchers for their studies concerning anatomy-pathology of small animals and of human tissues,

- Second, we supply a training service for the different techniques related to histological studies: microtome and cryostat sectioning, laser microdissection, microscopy analysis.

This service is opened to the members of the Cochin Institute, and to external research teams from public and private institutions.

We offer rapid characterization and anatomical analysis of experimental rodent models. Following your specific requests, we propose partial (basic histology) or complete analysis of your samples: from animal sacrifice to section coloring (histology/ morphology). We can also train a member of your team, thus allowing him/her access to the different equipments required to carry out your studies. He / she will benefit from our experience and to the access to the specialized equipment belonging to our facility.

Our facility is located on the 3rd floor of the Gustave Roussy building in the Cochin Institute. Its surface, totaling 50m2, is divided into three rooms that contain complete equipment enabling histological studies. Our infrastructure thus allows work to be carried out at the different steps of your histological studies, facilitating the integration between training and service activities. Our facility has a total capacity of 8 people.

Our facility owns a complete equipment for histological studies:

- 2 VIP (apparatus for paraffin impregnation) an a table for inclusion,

- 2 microtomes for sectionning of paraffin-embedded samples,

- 2 cryostats for sectionning of frozen tissues,

- A laser microdissector for the separation of two distinct structures included into the same tissue and subsequent differential studies on the expression of proteins and ARN,

- A fluorescence microscope (GFP, Rhodamine...) for treatment and analysis of your pictures,

- An autostainer that allows standard coloring like Hemalun-Eosin or Masson

- A manual coloring apparatus fore more specific coloring,

- And a stereomicroscope, essential for training that permits a permanent control of section quality.

After completion of training and online reservation on the web site, you will be authorized to access to the different apparatus of the service. Specifically:

- A microtome,

- A cryostat,

- The laser microdissector,

- And the fluorescence microscope.
